The first night starts with a tour of the workshop, getting you familiar with the tools and materials we will be using, a run through of workshop OH & S and a detailed breakdown of the days ahead. We will then move onto the design process: how to design a knife to fit your hand and your purpose, either hunting or camping.
The next day begins with a forging demonstration then it is your turn to get stuck into it. By lunch you will have your blade forged out, ground, hardened and tempering in the oven. After lunch, we work on the furnishings which are the handle and guard. Then hand polishing the blade and fitting of the furnishings.
The final day is shaping and fitting the handle, hand making the leather sheath and sharpening and polishing the blade. It doesn’t sound like much, but it will take the whole day. By the end of the course you will have one knife and sheath that you designed and made yourself, that can hang from your belt ready to use in the field.
